Regeneration
Every season the Matthew Cox team invite friends and family to join a gathering. For midsummer, we invited everyone to submit an artwork inspired by the word 'regeneration'.
The works in paint, paper, wool, photo, video, seed, plant and egg provoked reactions from wonder to hysteria to hope, and while it was a fun event for our team, it was intended to make us all think and DO.
Matthew's repurposed bell tower, now a verdigris frame to an oversized convex mirror reflected our weird and wonderful efforts back at us.
Ideas came from where we least expected them, as David's excellent 'Breathable Wool Jacket' reminded us – the striking piece resulted from the happy accident of a sheep's fleece meeting a washing machine!
On the evening of the exhibition, there was a perceptible high in the room and so much positive feedback from visiting friends, parents, grandparents and neighbours about how thoroughly the team threw themselves into their creative endeavours.
As usual, Matthew's mother Pearl stole the show with her pavlova (laden with the strawberry glut from the garden) ...and as usual the stragglers left long after closing time!
