Mastering metals
Long before we established our workshop, Matthew was an antique dealer with an eye for patina and surface. Whether it was the dry, bleached surface of a scrub-top kitchen table or the verdigrised brass of a weatherworn lantern, he was always drawn to the understated beauty of time and use.
As Matthew developed his made-to-measure furniture collection, the focus shifted to timber finishing. We initially outsourced the making and dedicated ourselves to perfecting a wide range of finishes. In time, we evolved – not just into accomplished furniture makers but skilled metal patinators too, capable of transforming raw materials into quietly exceptional surfaces.
Most of our metal finishes are applied to recycled brass, though we also work in copper, zinc, and occasionally iron or steel. Each piece of recycled brass has a unique composition, and our finishing team carefully coaxes out its character, revealing rich layers of depth and warmth.
Finished in burnished chocolate or luminous honey, elegant dry bronze, or striking verdigris, our pieces take on distinct personalities. Each finish lends a different mood and presence – subtle yet always out of the ordinary.
