A table for all seasons

As the tables in our contemporary collection are all completely made to measure, we are able to create your perfect piece. We hope it will be a table that will be with you for life, so it's important to ask lots of questions – the piece should fit its purpose, be harmonious with its surroundings, and look beautiful today and for years to come.

The first thing we like to understand is the use you have in mind for the table. Will it be a large informal dining table that will occassionally become the perfect place to re-pot your plants, or will it be a cherished supper table for two? Will it need maximum leg room so unexpected guests can pull up a stool and join you for lunch, or would you like it to be a perfect fit for the six cane chairs your parents gave you? We can advise you on the ideal dimensions and configuration.

Design-wise, instinctively people know what they like, but it’s also worth considering the possibilities both aesthetically and practically. Will the design need to tie tightly with the surroundings, or would a contrasting design create an exciting juxtaposition? Are you comfortable having a classic, well-defined style, or would future-proofing with a simpler, more versatile look make more sense?

The way you answer these questions will help to decide which materials and finishes you choose – there are more options here than you may think. If you'd like to see natural timber silver with time, then our native oak could be the right choice, but if you'd like a bold splash of colour then a painted softwood might be perfect. Maybe you like the romance of weathered zinc – or the magic of verdigrised copper, both of which make beautiful table tops, or perhaps the cooler surfaces of honed marble or riven slate would serve your purposes better?
