The form lamp | sphere

1. Description

A large-scale sphere-shaped oak and brass table lamp with linen shade, designed to be joyful and grounding in equal measure.

The sphere form lamp measures 600mm high x 450mm diameter with its shade. It takes an E26 or E27 lamp fitting. The shade rests on a shade carrier, and is easy to move for cleaning and bulb changing.

The form lamps are highly customisable, with sixteen natural finishes possible for the oak and four rich patinas for the brass. Each lamp is paired with a bold, custom-made shade, hand-stitched in heavyweight washed linen, providing a balanced counterpart and a compelling interplay of materials. Our linen shades come in a wide selection of twenty colours, or COM.

Our lamp bases are all hand made in solid FSC oak, and solid recycled brass, here in our Stamford workshop. The linen shades are hand made in the traditional way (allowing them to be recovered), by the brilliant Eloise Scotland, Bath, England.

The current lead time for a form lamp is 12 weeks from receipt of full payment and confirmation of fabric and finish.

A large-scale sphere-shaped oak and brass table lamp with linen shade

the sphere form lamp

The sphere lamp is part of our form series of table lamps, which also includes a cube, a cylinder and a pyramid – the foundational forms of the Matthew Cox design language. The four lamps to the right are shown in our raw oak finish.

The linen shades rest on wire shade carriers (supplied) fitted to the brass light fitting, making them easy to move and clean. The form lamps are highly customisable, with sixteen natural finishes possible for the oak, four rich patinas for the brass, and a wide collection of colours for the linen. The top left image shows the brass in our chocolate patina, and below you can see the oak in our tan finish.

The shades are hand made by Eloise Scotland using traditional lampshade making techniques. The frames are wrapped in plain cotton tape to create a foundation, to which the lining and main fabric are hand sewn. These pieces are designed and made to endure. Like an upholstered chair they can be stripped back to the frame and recovered, giving them a new lease of life.

The linen shade gives a warm and gentle glow while accentuating the sculptural form of the sphere below.
